    • Eddy Currents :This phenomenon happens when a conductor material goes through a changing magnetic field. The conductor movement produces a swirling current which, at the same time, creates electromagnets. Those created magnetic fields are opposed to the previous one.
      So, the stronger the changing magnetic field is; the better is the conductor; or the faster is the conductor speed, the more currents and the stronger opposed magnetic fields are.
    • Eddy Current non ferrus metals Separator :it is one of the Grupo FEM´s products. This equipment, thanks to the Eddy Currents phenomenon, classifies conductive non ferrus metals from other materials.
    • Electromagnet :it is an artifical magnet. This means an iron core is encircled by a conductive wire. When the current goes through the coil, a temporary magnetic field is produced and the ferric particles are attracted.
    • Electromagnetism :electricity creates an artificial magnetic field.

    • Ferrite : material compound of iron oxide particles. It is magnetic.

    • Gauss : Karl Friederich Gauss was a mathematician, pyisicist and astronomer from Germany who is well known because of his contributions to science. He deeply studied and researched magnetism and that is the reason way the unit of measurement for the magnetic field is called gauss (G).
    • Granulometry : unit of measurement for particles sizes.

    • Magnetic conveyor belt : it is a Grupo FEM equipment composed of two paralel drums surrounded by a belt which makes the material be transported. The second cylinder is an inducing magnetic drum, which works to separate the materials. This means, the ferric particles get stuck on the drum surface and do not fall down until the magnetic field strength decreases and is over.
    • Magnetic field : region where a magnetic force acts.
    • Magnetism : physical phenomenon which means some materials have properties to attract ferric particles.
    • Magnetic Poles : either of the two parts of a magnet that are opposite in charge. One of them is positive and the other one is negative.
    • Metals detector : device to recognize the presence of metal particles.
    • Monopolar Permanent Magnet : it is a Grupo FEM metal separator made by magnets whose orientation coincide, that is, there is only a pole to catch the material.

    • Neodymium : metal (Nd) used to produce magnets. The Nd is a rare-earth, metallic, trivalent element occuring with cerium and other rare-earth metals. They have a really strong magnetic force and are really good at catching minute ferric particles.

    • Overband : equipment designed to work over a conveyor belt. Its core is either a permanent magnet or an electromagnet that is surrounded by a belt.
      When the ferric particles are caught by the block, they get stuck on the band whose purpose is to move the particles away to be placed in a separate container. This way, the overband is always clear and able to continue its job getting more ferric materials.
